2D Compositing and Motion Design tools for Blender

We’ve recently run a crowdfunding campaign to develop and improve the Rainbox Open Tools: new free and open source tools for film and animation production.

The campaign has ended in June, and we’ve raised 26.000€, 185% of the initial goal, which means we’re now able to develop very advanced tools!

There are a lot of things we can and we want to develop. What we’re going to achieve depends primarily on how much we have raised during this crowdfunding campaign. We’ve reached the level III, which means most of the features will be developed, and just a few more advanced tools will be more difficult or take more time to develop, those which were planned at level IV.

We’ll need to reach the fourth level of our crowdfunding campaign to begin the development of these tools.

We believe that with some well-thought tools, Blender could become a powerful 2D compositing and motion design software, a free alternative to After Effects.

These tools would work with Duik for Blender and its 2D and 2.5D layouts, and implement parametric shapes (and 3D objects), an advanced text animation tool, and other tools to help layered scenes. These tools would make use of the excellent Animation Nodes (http://animation-nodes.com/ ) add-on and we would contribute to improve it.

Platforms:
– Blender/Windows
– Blender/Mac OS
Blender/Linux

  1. WOW definitely looking forward to this and all the new tools coming out. I am going to back this campaign and looking forward to seeing you guys create all of these tools for the motion design community. Blender has a lot of potential and i am happy to see you guys helping give artists creative freedom.

  2. This is amazing news. I would absolutely love some more straightforward 2D and 2.5D animation tools in Blender. Grease Pencil is amazing, but something that streamlines the workflow similar to After Effects would be great! I’ll be backing you guys, and I’m really excited to see what you come up with! (P.S. You should share this on Blenderartists and the other Blender sites, as I’m sure it would gain a bunch of traction there!)
